Congratulations to Thomas McAlpine and Paul Woods, two of our scaffolders who have recently gained promotion to Supervisor.
Thomas started with Turner Access in April 2019 after working with other scaffolding companies for several years. He qualified as a Part 2 Scaffolder by serving an Adult Apprenticeship and gaining experience through the years to develop into the role of Supervisor. Thomas comments “my role as Supervisor involves communicating with teams of Scaffolders around Scotland and building relationships with Site Agents to ensure that jobs run smoothly. I would just like to thank everyone for their support while I find my feet in this new role.”
Paul joined the company as a Part 2 Scaffolder, also in April 2019, with previous experience in the role of a supervisor. He tells us “I was enjoying working as a scaffolder for Turner Access when the opportunity of supervisor came up. This is a role which requires you to be a good communicator, problem solver and time manager. I have been able to prove during my time with the company that I possess the skills necessary to fulfil this role effectively and my personal skills have allowed me to create positive relationships with colleagues and agents”.
We would like to wish Thomas and Paul the best of luck in their new roles.
In November last year, we attended the NASC Annual Ball and Awards night at Celtic Manor near Newport, South Wales. Turner Access was shortlisted for a Health & Safety Award. Unfortunately, we did not win this year, but roll on entries for 2020! Well done to everyone involved in the award entry.
The shortlisted entry featured our new safety initiative Work Safe Home Safe , which aims to raise health and safety awareness and encourage people to consider the impact of their actions, on others as well as on themselves. Employees are encouraged to challenge unsafe acts and work together to create a safe place of work.
Work Safe Home Safe started with a series of launch sessions that included an introduction to the initiative and a presentation focussing on behavioural safety. Every employee was required to attend the launch and asked to undertake a commitment to safety, in the workplace and at home.
Since the launch, Work Safe Home Safe now forms the basis of safety culture at Turner Access. The purpose of it and the values that stem from it provide direction on what behaviours and attitudes should be towards creating a safe and healthy business environment. From this, the Work Safe Home Safe Commitment was created, which is made up of 3 components to ensure employees, clients and customers go home safely every day; (i) Safe Organisation, (ii) Safe Job, and (iii) Safe Person.
